Pagosa Springs Arts Council's Treasurer is Madeline Lyon, owner of Wild Spirit Gallery in downtown Pagosa Springs. Originally from Ohio, Lyon moved to Pagosa Springs via Lumberton, New Mexico after teaching at St. Francis School for three years.

Wild Spirit Gallery is her first venture into retail. In Ohio, she and her husband, the late Robert E. Lyon, owned and operated an anodizing company. Lyon taught in the Catholic School system a total of twenty-four years.

"The Pagosa Springs Arts Council has a strong and energetic board," comments Lyon.

"I'm happy to be serving the art community this way. There are some exciting events in the making which will involve the people of Pagosa who may not be professional artists, but who have an interest in creating."

Lyon is working with board member Katharine Frisbee on the 2010 exhibit series. The series will begin in April and run through November. Watch for more news as the series unfolds.

Teako
PSAC shares a building with several tenants including The Club and a quaint café called Teako. Teako serves a variety of healthy and tasty breakfast and lunch items which include breakfast burritos, hearty sandwiches, spring rolls, rice bowls, salads and more. They also offer homemade soft pretzels, a variety of smoothies, specialty teas and coffee drinks. Teako provides a cozy seating area, food to go and for group orders delivery is available.

Artist’s Luncheons
PSAC is offering another great way for artists and Board members to get together, share ideas, inspire one another, and build PSAC together. Join our artists luncheons every 3rd Friday of the month at noon at Nello’s Bistro in the uptown City Market plaza. Our next luncheon will be held on March 19.

Call to Artists
We have a Call to Artists for their intent to participate in the 2010 Artists’ Studio and Gallery Tour. Please visit our website at www.pagosa-arts.com to download the PDF. The planning meeting is scheduled for March 3rd from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Pagosa Pub Works BrewPub. Artists intending to participate on the studio tour are encouraged to attend this meeting as are any galleries and shops desiring to be a part of this year’s tour.

Member Artists on Website
We’ve made a few changes on our website, the most important of which is a listing of our member artists. We’ve made it easier now than ever before for everyone to get to know the amazing, talented artists we have in our community and surrounding area. Log onto the PSAC website and click on the Artist Listing button.  Visit our site often, as we continue to add artists and new features.

New Location for PSAC
The Arts Council office is located in The Club building at 450 Lewis St., B-2. Our phone number is 970- 264-5020. The new email address is info@pagosa-arts.com. Our workshops will continue to be held in the Community Center Arts and Crafts Room until March 31 and after April 1 they will be held in The Studio at the Club.  The 2010 Exhibits will be held in the Rotunda of Town Hall thanks to their gracious offer to host these events. So all in all we are looking forward to the new changes, new venue and are excited about the 2010 season for the Pagosa Springs Arts Council.

Plein Air Painters
Plein Air Painters offers a wonderful opportunity for artists and art enthusiasts alike to share tips, ideas and resources. Painters who work in any media are welcome. Our schedule has changed and from now on we will meet on the 4th Thursday of the month. If the weather is nice, the group paints outdoors. If the weather is bad, the group paints in the Community Center Arts and Crafts Room. Please keep in mind that turpentine-based painting materials cannot be used in the Community Center. Please call Jean Shah 264-0188 or Jean Smith 264-6647 if you need more information.
